Residential soundproofing

Aware of the nuisances generated by its activities, Genève Aéroport offers to financially support soundproofing works for nearby residents.

Our programme

We launched a building soundproofing programme in 2003 for properties located near the airport. It is funded through fees, which are:

  • charged to airlines for each landing
  • applied per landing
  • higher for noisier aircraft

An additional fee is applied for departures after 10 p.m.

Since 2004, 4,483 homes (719 buildings) have been soundproofed, for a total amount of CHF 67.93 million.

What are the eligibility criteria?

Above all, the location

Your home must be located in a municipality near the airport: Satigny, Meyrin, Vernier, Le Grand-Saconnex, Pregny-Chambésy, Bellevue, Genthod.

Plus four additional cumulative criteria:

  • At least one room in the building is exposed to noise
  • At least one exceedance of regulatory limits has been recorded
  • The building was constructed, modified or converted before 15 January 1979
  • The building envelope complies with the requirements of the acoustic specification and recommendations

How does it work in practice?

Home assessment

Genève Aéroport or its appointed contractor assesses whether your building is eligible for the soundproofing programme. If it is, an evaluation file is prepared specifying the acoustic insulation measures that are covered or reimbursed.

Signing of an agreement

We calculate a budget envelope based on three quotes that meet the requirements of the assessment file. You are free to choose the joinery companies. The amount of the budget envelope, as well as the terms and obligations, are set out in an agreement.

Construction phase

You are the project owner for the soundproofing works. We pay you an advance upon receipt of the order documentation.

Finalisation and settlement of costs

Once the works are completed, we carry out a compliance check against the requirements. As the project owner, you are responsible for accepting the works. We then make a final payment to you, based on proof of payment and invoices, in accordance with the payment terms set out in the agreement.
